The University of Illinois System is improving the health and wellness of the people of Illinois. The University of Illinois Hospital has 495 beds and more than 990 physicians and advanced practitioners on staff. The Mile Square Health Center, with 13 locations across Chicago, has a special mission to address health concerns for underserved, urban populations.

We're also training more medical and health professionals than any other institution in the state and investing time, talent, and dollars to stay on the cutting edge of medical research.

Providing care

The University Hospital and Health Sciences System (UI Health) is the state's largest public healthcare provider. We're providing exemplary patient care and are committed to providing charity care and resources for underserved populations. In partnership with community hospitals near our regional campuses around the state, we help deliver quality care while educating the next generation of professionals.

UI Health has more than 500,000 outpatient visits per year.

Training healthcare leaders

Programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, social work, public health, and others are developing the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, many of whom will reside and practice in Illinois after graduation. The training offered through our three universities makes the U of I System a state leader in providing skilled professionals who enhance the quality of life for those at home and around the world.

The Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana-Champaign, an engineering-based medical college, welcomed its first class in 2018.

Finding health solutions

Each university is conducting research and making discoveries to improve health and medicine. From a cure for sickle cell anemia to the development of mobile apps and wearables for health monitoring, our researchers are continually exploring ways to improve our health environment.

Established in 1859, the UIC College of Pharmacy is the oldest academic unit in the U of I System.
