Our CompassLocationsImpactPriorities & Initiatives

The University of Illinois System is improving the health and wellness of the people of Illinois. UI Health provided nearly 1.3 million patient visits in FY2023 across the University of Illinois Hospital, outpatient clinics and Mile Square Health Center locations. The Mile Square Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center network incorporating locations across Chicago, including school-based health centers, with a special mission to address health concerns for underserved, urban populations.

We’re also training more medical and health professionals than any other institution in the state and investing time, talent, and dollars to stay on the leading-edge of health and biomedical research.

Training healthcare leaders

Programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, social work, public health, and others are developing the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, many of whom will reside and practice in Illinois after graduation. The training offered through our three universities makes the U of I System a state leader in providing skilled professionals who enhance the quality of life for those at home and around the world.

The Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana-Champaign, an engineering-based medical college, welcomed its first class in 2018.

Finding health solutions

Each university is conducting research and making discoveries to improve health and medicine. From a cure for sickle cell anemia to the development of mobile apps and wearables for health monitoring, our researchers are continually exploring ways to improve our health environment.

Established in 1859, the UIC College of Pharmacy is the oldest academic unit in the U of I System.
