University Relations

The Office for University Relations is responsible for developing and executing strategic communications programs to gain and sustain public support of the University of Illinois System. The office works with the three universities in Urbana, Chicago, and Springfield to coordinate efforts and ensure consistent application of the U of I System's image and messages. The office provides assistance to the president, trustees, executive officers and others in the system offices, and serves as the central institutional response to requests under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. 

Some of the primary duties of the office include:

Communications, Marketing, & Branding

Our staff produces, disseminates, and coordinates a variety of communications including:

University Relations also coordinates the Strategic Communications and Marketing Council (SCMC) and the System Offices Communications Council (SOCC)

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

All Freedom of Information requests to the U of I System and/or any of the three universities are processed by the Office for University Relations.  

Media Assistance

The office serves as the primary point of contact for media for the U of I System, including the president and board of trustees.
