Carolina Silverbell

The Carolina Silverbell is a native tree that is uncommon in this area. In April and May, its branches are covered in delicate, white, bell-shaped flowers followed by bright green leaves that turn golden in fall. This particular Carolina Silverbell was named state champion in 2021, meaning that it is the tallest of its species in the state of Illinois. It joins the Yellowwood found in the green space north of Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall, as the second official state champion tree on campus.
