Planned, developed, and paid for by the Killeens, the Family Vegetable Garden was added to the grounds of The President’s House in 2016. Many of the items planted in the garden each year start as seedlings nurtured in the Solarium of The President’s House before the outdoor growing season begins. A bounty of salad greens, root vegetables, tomatoes, beans, and more provide fresh produce all summer long. What cannot be used at its peak is preserved as pickles, relishes, sauces, jellies, pastes, and salsas or is dehydrated or frozen.
