In spring, the Backyard comes to life as dogwoods, magnolias and
redbuds begin to bloom. Perennials like columbine, black-eyed Susan,
and foxglove attract pollinators with their colorful flowers along the
south side of the President’s House. An herb garden at the southwest
corner of house provides parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, mint, basil,
and other aromatics for the family kitchen and catered events. The
lawn hosts large events like the annual Commencement Reception that is
open to all graduates and their friends and family.
