Mobile Application Privacy Notice
INTRODUCTION: BY INSTALLING, USING OR OTHERWISE ACCESSING THE ILLINI-ALERT+ APPLICATION FROM ANY DEVICE, MOBILE OR OTHERWISE, YOU ARE AGREEING TO ABIDE BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS PRIVACY NOTICE. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, DO NOT DOWNLOAD AND/OR ACCESS OUR APPLICATION. BY USING THIS APPLICATION, YOU ARE CONSENTING TO THE COLLECTION, USE, AND DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS PRIVACY NOTICE.
This Privacy Notice sets forth how your information is collected, used, transferred, and stored through the mobile application titled "Illini-Alert+" (“Application”) and the terms and conditions governing your use of the Application. The Application is based on the 3rd party software called Rave AppArmor (“Rave AppArmor”) of Motorola Solutions, Inc. (“Motorola”). Application was created by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and is offered to users by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois (“University,” “we,” “our,” “us”).
This Privacy Notice is subject to the Application Terms of Service; the University of Illinois System Privacy Statement, which contains among other sections the Rules for Individuals under Thirteen Years of Age; the Legal Notice and Terms of Use, which contains among other provisions, disclaimers of: liability, warranties and accuracy of data, endorsement, external links, and duties regarding data; and the University of Illinois Supplemental Privacy Notice for certain persons in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom (Supplemental Privacy Notice).
1. What information may the Application collect?
- Personal Information. “Personal Information” for purposes of this Privacy Notice means information that can be used to identify, contact, or locate an individual, such as, your name, address, phone number, or email address.
- University employees may use SSO services to register and may in addition provide their mobile phone number.
- Non-University of Illinois users (those who are not faculty, staff, or students) may register and provide their name, email address, and mobile phone number.
- Guest access is also available with no personal information provided
Users may choose a personal safety service like the Friends Walk or Safe Walk to share Your location with dispatchers. A message would alert You that your location is being shared. The location data is used only during this service and is not stored for long-term usage.
- Automatically Collected Non-Personal Information. The Application may collect certain Non-Personal Information automatically that may not, on its own, permit direct association with any specific individual.
The following are some examples of non-personal information that may be collected by Rave AppArmor: the type of mobile device you use, IP address, mobile device unique device ID, browser type and language, Internet Service provider (ISP), and other information as defined at https://illinois.apparmor.com/Legal/Privacy/ and https://www.motorolasolutions.com/en_us/about/privacy-policy.html. By using the Application, you are consenting to the collection, use, disclosure, and transfer of non-personal information by Motorola, between Motorola and its affiliates and service providers (which may be in the United States or in other countries). The following are examples of how non-personal information may be used by Motorola: for (i) providing the Rave AppArmor software and services, (ii) facilitating the provision of new products, updates, enhancements and other services, (iii) improving the Rave AppArmor software, the services, and other products, services and technologies, (iv) providing new products, services or technologies customers of Motorola or its affiliates, and (v) to meet regulatory requirements.
To the extent that any non-personal information is combined with personal information, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information as long it is combined.
2. How Is Your Personal Information Used?
The Application uses your Personal Information to provide you with the information and services that are directly relevant to your use of the Application. Specifically, we may use the Personal Information collected to locate you, to verify your identity to grant you access to the dispatcher dashboard or this Application, and for other legal reasons as apply to services (chats with dispatcher or Safe Walk) you access.
3. Is Your Personal Information Shared With Any Third Parties Outside The University?
We may share your Personal Information outside the University as required by law, order of governmental authority, or court order to be disclosed; when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request. We may also share your Personal Information if permitted under University of Illinois policy, authorized by an approved University of Illinois contract, for good cause by the Chancellor or the Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of Illinois. The University does not sell or lease your Personal Information to third parties.
4. How Is Your Information Protected?
We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect information processed by the Application. No method of transmission, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
5. Where Will the Information Be Stored?
All Personal Information and Non-Personal Information is stored in the Application. Your Personal Information and Non-Personal Information is also stored on a secure cloud-based server which is under University’s control.
6. Opt-In and Opt-Out Information
You may change your information preferences and opt-out of information collection by uninstalling the Application.
7. How Long Is Your Personal Information Stored?
We will retain user personal information for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. If you would like us to delete your Personal Information that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at dps-em@illinois.edu and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all the user Personal Information may be required for the Application to function properly, and we may be required to retain certain information by law.
8. Changes to this Privacy Notice
We may amend this Privacy Notice from time to time. If we amend this Privacy Notice, we will post the changes on https://www.uillinois.edu/about/policies/mobile/illinialertplus_privacy_notice . Your continued use of the Application after any such changes will constitute your acceptance of the updated Privacy Notice. If you do not wish to accept the revised Privacy Notice, you must not use or access (or continue to use or access) the Application. Please regularly check the Application or website to determine if the Privacy Notice has been updated and to review those changes before deciding whether to access (or continue to access) the Application
