Health Care Components

UofI is a “hybrid entity” under the HIPAA Privacy Regulations. While the UofI’s primary purpose is education, the University does have departments or components that provide covered functions.  Determination of a college’s/unit’s Health Care Component (HCC) status is made based on analysis of the responses that college/unit provided in the U of I – HIPAA Survey Tool . For purposes of the HIPAA regulations, the following colleges, departments or units are designated as “covered components” and shall comply fully with the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the policies and procedures set forth in UofI’s HIPAA policies.
