Simulation & Education Center.

The $51 million simulation center was launched through a $25 million gift to the University and OSF HealthCare from Jump Trading, a global financial technology firm based in Chicago. Bill DiSomma, managing partner of Jump Trading, and his wife Mary made the donation, the largest single gift in the history of UICOMP and OSF, through the DiSomma Family Foundation. OSF provided the remainder of the funding.

President Robert Easter and Cheryl Easter toured the virtual hospital along with other
dignitaries, including Urbana Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Ilesanmi
Adesida, UIC Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares, and UIC College of Medicine Dean Dimitri Azar.

Ceremony guests toured the center, which includes a virtual hospital, with simulators for every component of a hospital – ICU, operating rooms and patient rooms. The cross-discipline training provided through the virtual hospital is unique among medical schools and hospitals, which typically provide training that targets selected providers, such as surgeons or nurses.

Along with training, the center lets students practice competency skills and  provides hands-on opportunities for researchers and engineers to test new techniques and new devices to improve health care, shorten hospital stays, and reduce costs.

The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria is one of four campuses that make up the nation’s largest public medical school. Located in Downtown Peoria, the College of Medicine is recognized as a leader in medical education and research.
