Emeritus Presidents

Four living former presidents of the University of Illinois were given emeritus status upon their retirements.

Robert EasterRobert A. Easter

Robert Easter, who retired in May 2015, came to the Urbana-Champaign campus as a graduate student in 1973 and joined the faculty after earning his doctorate in animal science in 1976. He served as a department head, dean, interim provost, interim chancellor and interim vice chancellor for research at UIUC and was appointed as president in 2012. He was named president emeritus at the May 2015 board meeting and is also an emeritus professor.

He received the University's Distinguished Service Medallion in 2015 for his "unwavering devotion to the University."


S.O. Ikenberry.Stanley O. Ikenberry

Stanley Ikenberry was president of the University for 16 years, from 1979 to 1995. He returned as president for six months in 2010. He was named emeritus president and regent professor by board action in 1995 (see page 299).

Dr. Ikenberry received the University's Distinguished Service Medallion in 1998 for his leadership and devotion to the U of I and American higher education.

 

J.J. Stukel.James J. Stukel

James Stukel was president of the University for a decade, from 1995 to 2005. The board approved president emeritus status in November 2004.

 

 

BB.J. White.. Joseph White

Joe White served as president from 2005-2009. He was awarded the rank of president emeritus in January 2010.
