The following are projects and initiatives created in collaboration with units throughout the University of Illinois System.

Active or In Progress Initiatives

Identity and Access Management (IAM) Project

The goal of this project is to implement an IAM solution to address the U of I System need to manage Identity and Access issues. This project will be implemented in three phases that span over 2 to 4 years. Based on the project planning, these phases may overlap. More information can be found on the IAM Project Website.

Advanced Illinois (AI) Project

The goal of this project is to broadly review and improve the advancement technology infrastructure in order to enhance fundraising and engagement for and on behalf of the University of Illinois System.  More information can be found on the Advance Illinois website

START myResearch Project

START myResearch will modernize and streamline the research enterprise at the University of Illinois System.  This project combines the implementation of a grants management and compliance software with the launch of a Principal Investigator (PI) portal providing faculty with grant related information from a number of different university systems.  For more information, visit START myReseach.

UI IT Leadership Program (ITLP)

From October 2011 to May 2012, 30 individuals from across the University of Illinois System participated and graduated from an IT leadership program. This program was designed to:

  • Enhance the professional and personal development of individuals who will play increasingly important management and leadership roles within information technology
  • Broaden each participant's understanding of the strategic and technological issues facing the U of I System
  • Strengthen relationships within and across departments in order to foster collaboration and leverage resources when working on common interests

Completed or Operational Initiatives

Box Enterprise Service

Box is an online file sharing and cloud content management service that works on PCs, Macs, mobile and tablet devices and provides access to your files from any location. This service is available to all current University of Illinois System faculty, staff, and students. Faculty, staff and students are provided 50GB of space. Business Process Improvement Shared Service

Representatives from the University of Illinois System and its three universities are working together to offer a shared service for business process improvement at the U of I System. Several initiatives are working toward increasing the efficiency of System operations. Endpoint Management Services

Endpoint management (EPM) provides the opportunity to reduce operational costs for supporting campus desktop, laptop, and mobile computing devices. It provides secure updates, patch management, logging, inventory maintenance, and overall quick remediation abilities for IT Professionals. Endpoint management solutions include highly automated and integrated tools to significantly reduce the effort required to manage and secure desktop computers. Illinois Faculty Profiles

The Division of Biomedical Sciences (DBS) and AITS have implemented Harvard’s Faculty Profile software at UIUC to assist faculty in locating and collaborating other researchers with common research interests. Illinois Profiles will increase collaboration, reduce the duplication of research projects and increase funding for joint endeavors between fellow researchers within University of Illinois System. The current implementation of Illinois Profiles is limited to UIUC’s Interdisciplinary Health Sciences community. For more information, please contact DBS.

IT Consulting Contracts

A request for proposal (KRS102) was initiated to obtain contracts for University of Illinois System-wide use in purchasing as needed temporary information technology personnel and consulting services for a variety of IT applications, systems and services. Contracts were awarded to twenty-eight firms and can be utilized by units from any of the U of I System Offices and three universities. These contracts are meant specifically for use in obtaining services from one or more of ten categories of services. Firms can only be utilized for the category(s) for which they were awarded and contracts executed. The initial contract term is for the period of July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2019 with the option to renew for two (2) additional twelve-month periods. More information can be found on the IT Consulting Contracts Website.

SharePoint Shared Service

The goal of the SharePoint Shared Service is to have a platform available to all three universities and U of I System Offices that will facilitate collaboration. This service was successfully launched on November 5, 2012 and has already increased in the number of site collections created by 65 percent. The multi-tiered service now houses over 115 site collections between the production and test environments. A SharePoint Advisory Board, made up of U of I System stakeholders, provides guidance for the governance of the service. Web-Based Training Service for the University of Illinois System

A request for proposal was initiated to obtain contracts for University of Illinois System-wide web-based training services for the U of I System. A contract was awarded to and is now able to be utilized by individuals from the U of I System and its three universities.
