In-stateIn-state tuition freeze

Keeping talented students at home in Illinois to continue their education is vital to the success of our state. Students who earn degrees in Illinois are more likely to live and work in the state after graduation, strengthening local communities and economies.

We know paying for college can be a challenge.

That is why, for the fifth year in a row, we have frozen tuition rates for new in-state undergraduates across the University of Illinois System. These rates are guaranteed for four years at our universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield. Plus we have increased our scholarships, waivers, grants and fellowships nearly threefold in the last decade.

We believe an investment in a world-class education here at home in Illinois is an investment worth making—for you, for your family, and for our state.

Affordability

More than half of University of Illinois System students typically pay less than full cost of tuition because of need- and merit-based aid provided by the university and federal and state grant programs. And our universities are consistently rated as "best value" schools among public institutions nationwide. A recent study estimates the average annual return-on-investment for our students is 15.4 percent.
