UIC's Daley Library

Daley Library on the UIC campus.A home for Chicago's political and cultural history.

The Daley Library at UIC specializes in collecting the archives of Chicagoans who have shaped the city's political and cultural past. Its special collections department holds documents, images and publications gathered by Jane Addams, Saul Alinsky, the Chicago Urban League, and many politicians and journalists.

Staff in the library are currently processing the archives of Burton Natarus, former alderman of Chicago's high-profile 42nd ward. An alderman for 36 years, Natarus gave the Daley Library copies of City Council proceeding since 1970, financial controller reports, zoning ordinances and scrapbooks filled with photos and news articles. UIC librarian Mary Case calls the donation "a treasure" that reflects a period in the city's history of rapid change and great improvement.

In addition to the Daley Library's services and resources and special collections and archives, UIC also has the Science Library on campus and four libraries for the health sciences in Chicago, Peoria, Rockford and Urbana.

The University of Illinois at Chicago is an urban university intimately connected to its home in one of the nation's largest and most diverse cities. A noted research center, particularly in urban affairs, medicine and the health sciences, UIC is committed to creating and disseminating new knowledge.
