Human factors laboratory opens

HAL is born
HAL, the fictional computer created by Arthur C. Clarke in his book 2001: A Space Odyssey, declared: "I am a HAL Nine Thousand computer, Production Number 3. I became operational at the HAL Plant in Urbana, Illinois, on January 12, 1997." Learn more about the history of computer science...

Student union buildings renamed
The student union buildings on the UIC campus were renamed in January 2005 following Board of Trustees approval. Student Center East (SCE) opened as the Chicago Circle Center in September 1965, while Student Center West (SCW) opened as the Chicago Illini Union in 1967. Learn more about the name change...

General Assembly inaugurated
