Illibuck dies
The Illibuck, a wooden turtle trophy given to the winner of the
football game between the Urbana campus and Ohio State, was originally
a live turtle. After his death in 1926, a wooden replica was made
and passed between the teams upon each win until 1950, when he was

Observatory dedicated

NCSA Mosaic released
At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's National Center
for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), Unix-platform version of
the Mosiac web browser was released by Marc Andreessen and NCSA
staff member Eric Bina.
Mosaic was the first web browser to be widely used by the public
and the first to allow images to be imbedded along with text. Learn
