President of the University of Illinois
The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois announces a search for President of the University, the appointment to be effective July 1, 2010, or as designated by the Board. The President of the University leads an academic community with a strong and proud tradition of excellence in teaching, research, public service and engagement.
Established in 1867 as the public land grant university of the State of Illinois, the University of Illinois has achieved international recognition as a center of higher learning. The University is a long-time member of the Association of American Universities. With campuses in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield, including a major health sciences center in Chicago, the University's reach is extensive. The university enrolls some 49,000 undergraduate, 18,000 graduate and 3,000 professional program students, and 5,700 faculty and 17,800 staff contribute to the work of the university. More than 600,000 alumni hold University of Illinois degrees. The President oversees an annual budget of $4.7 billion, made up of extensive Federal research funding, gifts from alumni and friends, and support from the people of the State of Illinois.
A presidential search committee composed of trustees, faculty and staff members, alumni, and students is seeking an outstanding candidate. Nominations, applications, and expressions of interest are being solicited. Isaacson, Miller is assisting the University with the search.
