University of Illinois Board of Trustees Chairman Christopher G. Kennedy announced the appointment of the 18th president on May 12 in Chicago and Urbana. He made a similar announcement on May 13 in Springfield. Hogan's appointment was approved by the University Board of Trustees at their May 20 board meeting on the Chicago campus. A specialist in post-World War II diplomatic history and the Cold War, Hogan succeeds President Stanley O. Ikenberry. A Midwest native, Hogan brings to the University experience from a four-decade career in public higher education that has included progressively senior administrative appointments at The Ohio State University and the University of Iowa before joining UConn in 2007. He holds degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa. He will start his position at the University on July 1.
