Youth literature festival
More than 2,000 children and their parents and teachers
attended readings and activities as part of the first Youth
Literature Festival organized by the Urbana College of
Education. The event, which took place in October 2008,
brought more than 20 authors and illustrators, many
with national followings, into 44 schools in east-central
Illinois for readings and activities. The festival culminated
in an all-day celebration with activities such as puppetry,
storytelling, musical performances, poetry readings and
book signings, which spanned venues across Urbana and Champaign.
